The Sudanese Doctors Syndicate announced that several dialysis centers are no longer functioning and more are expected to follow suite next week unless dialysis consumables are urgently provided.

In a statement on Saturday the syndicate said the health system in the Sudan was paralysed, with Khartoum and Darfur taking the lead, as an inevitable consequence of the current war; of which the syndicate has been warning since eruption of the armed conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in mid April.

The majority of medical institutions in Khartoum and a number of Darfur states, is now out of service as a result of repeated bombardment and attacks while others are being used by the RSF as military barracks.

The doctors syndicate said the renal failure patients suffer lack of consumables required for the renal dialysis indicating that unnecessary procedures have blocked arrival of a medical aid shipment donated by the International Society of Nephrology. The Sudan’s National Fund for Medical Supplies did not explain the reasons behind the delay of the shipment arrival, the syndicate added.

The syndicate called on all concerned government bodies to stand up to their duties towards the dialysis centers and other health institutions.

It also called on all donors to help in providing medical and humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people and save over 8,000 kidney patients who are on the brink of death.
